Card Cupids Challenge--A Sketch

Good Morning! It is time for our mid-month challenge over at Card Cupids. Our sponsor for this challenge is Sassy Cheryl. In additon to this we are also participating with Sketch Saturday who shared their sketch with us. They also shared some of our Card Cupids DT cards to their blog as well.

Here is the sketch we followed:

For my card, I used the image "Noah and Patches" from Sassy Cheryl and colored it with Copic markers. I was really happy to receive this image to work with becuase I have found that I am seriously lascking in images to make cards for little boys. I have to admit though, that the teddy bear totally intimidated me, I haven't ever really colored one that I was happy with. Even though I have seen lots of images with them I usually shy away from them. I am very happy with the way this one turned out!

We would love for you to join our challenge. Simply create a project with the avobe sketch and link it to our challenge post

Samantha's Birthday Card

Good Morning! Samantha just celebrated her 10th birthday and I wanted to show you the card that I made for her. It was funny, a couple of weeks before her birthday she told me she couldn't wait to see what her birthday card was going to look like. She mentioned it again after seeing the card I made for her sister Jenna's birthday. No pressure, right? It does make me feel good though that they look forward to their cards and know that I try and find the perfect image for them. Samantha is like me in the fact that there isn't enough yellow and nothing can be too yellow! It is so hard too to find stuff for little girls in yellow. Pink and Purple? Yes. But yellow is a little harder to find. Other than crafting together, Samantha and I really enjoy cooking together. When she is here for dinner, we usually make something that she hasn't made before and I usually try and find a recipe for something that is new to both of us.

I had my selection narrowed down to this image and another one that showed a girl painting. I wanted something that represented something that we do together and using an image from a company that she really admires. I kept going back to this one though because that confident look on that little girl's face reminded me of Samantha and she really likes Sassy Cheryl's images. Of course I colored her with a yellow chef's hat and jacket to personalize it even more. I added some yellow paper, yellow letters and yellow flowers that I had found a while back and decided to save for a "Samantha" card.

She really liked her card!

I am linking Samantha's birthday card to the Sassy Cheryl challenge since the challenge was to make a birthday card.

Thanks for stopping by today!

April Showers

I am getting a late start posting today! I am off work today as I am on most Fridays, but this week I found myself caught up on my errands and other things so I am having a lazy day. That means I am pretty much spending the day in PJs, hair in a ponytail and I have been playing in my craft room almost all day and forgot to come upstairs to write my post! The challenge on the Sassy Cheryl Blog this week is April Showers and this is the card I made for that challenge. I love this image because it is just adorable, but that little duck makes me smile. I went with some brighter spring colors and wanted to use some paper that had flowers on it since April Showers bring May Flowers. Image is from Sassy Cheryl, papers are DCWV, image was colored with Copics and I used some brads from Hobby Lobby, there is a little Glossy Accents on her swim mask.

A funny story about April Showers bring May Flowers; my maiden name is Flowers and I have a grandmother with the name of Mae. My Mother almost gave me that name when I was born and I would have gone through life known as Mae Flowers. Talk about being made fun of on the playground! I am so thankful to the family members that talked her out of that one.

Samantha has a blog post today too.

I have entered a contest based on the USDA's My Plate food guideline. If you can, would you please vote for me HERE. Thanks!!

Have a great weekend!

Thinking About Spring

I am seeing definite signs of spring around here in Tennessee; lots of blooms, people readying garden spots, the sound of lawn mowers and tons of pollen coating everything! I love it though. We didn't have much of a winter, but spring is always welcome. The challenge this week on the Sassy Cheryl blog is "Think Spring". I thought this was a perfect image to use for a spring challenge. I know my nieces and nephew are on Spring Break this week and my FIL mentioned he has taken them fishing for the first time this year. I love that little worm crawling along the fishing line. I used an image from Sassy Cheryl, colored it with Copics, papers from DCWV, some twine, a tag and some baubles from my stash.

Thanks for visiting today!

Stitches-Real or Faux

The challenge on the Sassy Cheryl blog this week is to make stitches, real or faux ones. Mine are of the faux variety since I haven't figured out how to use my sewing machine yet! My parents are coming up for a visit this weekend and if we have time I will see if she can give me some pointers. I used the Sassy Cheryl image Button Flowers Bag and colored it with Copic Markers. She has a couple of more of these that are similar with buttons. I really love buttons. I keep buying them too, almost every time I go into a craft store I leave with some buttons. Anyway, I just think these images are too cute. Since I am sewing machine challenged, I had to draw in my little stitches around the border of my card. One day I will learn to sew!

I did buy a machine a couple of months ago and a great book on teaching yourself how to sew. Yeah, I still don't know how to sew. I can do basic things by hand; like sewing on buttons, fixing a loose hem, that type of thing. I was fortunate enough to have my Great Grandmother for the first sixteen years of my life and she taught me to quilt by hand. So I have pieced quilts and actually quilted with needle and thread but am lost when it comes to using the machine. It is going to be a crazy busy weekend. I have my 5K in the morning, am teaching a Copic class right after that and then have my parents here for the weekend and will be taking Mom out to celebrate her birthday. If we have a spare minute or two I am going to see if she can at least get me started!

Sassy Cheryl's PINK Challenge

Hello!! I am here today and playing along with the challenge on the Sassy Cheryl challenge blog. The challenge this week is PINK. I just love bunny images and use them all throughout the year, especially when I am making cards or anything else for my niece Zoie, she loves them as much as I do. Sassy Cheryl has some of my all time favorite bunnies too. I bought several new images a couple of weeks ago and have just now had time to sit down and color them. I love this one with the little ladybugs. After coloring everything with Copics, I went over the ladybugs with some Glossy Accents to make them really stand out and to give them a little dimension. Papers are DCWV, flowers and ribbon have been in the craft room for a while so I am not sure where they came from. Thanks for visiting me today!

I posted that I was going to try and take a Jeep full of water back home to Bradley County this weekend to donate to the homeowners and volunteers doing clean up from last week's tornado. I sent out the call and man did everyone respond. It was a last minute call too, so I wasn't sure how many people would see the email before I needed to head out. I was hoping for a full Jeep and that is what I got. One more case and I wouldn't have been able to see out of my rear view mirror. It was just amazing. Since people were bringing 2-4 cases at a time and loading them directly into the Jeep I didn't even realize how many there were until we unloaded it. I was also collecting quarters to be able to give people to use at the laundromat. Friends brought all the water that you see below, plus another dozen gallons of water that didn't make it into the picture, $125 in quarters and another $65.00 to use at my discretion. When I went to church with my parents on Sunday they announced that they were putting together baskets of personal care items to hand out. So I took the rest of the money and spent it buying razors, shaving cream and band-aids. I was also able to help assemble the baskets. Here is the water:

I have seen the destruction from tornados in person many, many times. I had been seeing the destruction online but I wasn't quite prepared for what I saw. It was so much worse. Both of the hardest hit areas there were in the school zones where I attended school. I grew up running around that neighborhood, playing with friends. There just aren't enough words. Thank you again for all the prayers and concern. Please keep praying for all the people that lost so much, including nine families that lost a loved one there and all the others that impacted throughout Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

I changed cameras this year too and can tell a huge difference in the colors of my photos. Looking back, I could see exactly when I changed cameras too, there was no doubt. Thanks again for taking a look.

White on White Challenge

Are you having a good Saturday? I am even though it is a wet and stormy Saturday here in Tennessee. Perfect day for sitting down and playing with my Copics and some fun images. The challenge on the Sassy Cheryl challenge site is a white on white theme. You could color your image any way you wanted, but all the papers and embellishments had to be white. I decided to use this image from Sassy Cheryl's called Pride in our Flag and in keeping with the image, I stuck with the patriotic red, white and blue color combo. While I was coloring, I realized I really need  more blue Copics.  That is the color family I have the fewest of for some reason and there are some big gaps in what I do have. Anyway, for my background I used two different Cuttlebug folders, the star one and the one that looks like branches. I had to emboss two separate panels to cover this card and then a cut a piece off of the branch one and flipped it long ways so that it would look like stripes. This was a fun challenge!

My parents are here visiting for the weekend. Since next weekend is Mother's Day we will be celebrating with Mom tonight. We are taking them to dinner and giving her gift to her. Have a great weekend!

Sassy Cheryl Challenge

Good evening! I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was full of house cleaning and laundry but of course I managed to find some time with my Copics! No weekend is complete without some creative time. I have several images from Sassy Cheryl and decided to play along in their weekly challenge this week. This image was actually a free one that we were given for being part of the Sassy Cheryl group on PCP. She has so many cute images, it really is hard to pick a favorite one, but this one definitely tops my list. I decided to color all the parts of her glamorous ensemble different colors, and nothing quite matches, just like a real little girl might do when she is playing dress up. I followed the sketch provided by the challenge. The papers are Making Memories and DCWV, the earrings are some little rhinestones from Hobby Lobby as is the large rhinestone in the corner of the image and the white ribbon. The image and large rhinestone were colored with Copics and glitter pens (dress & bow RV13, RV 14, RV17, scarf B12, B16, V12, V15, V17, socks Y00, Y0000, shoes C3, C5, C7, C9, skin E000, E00).

One of the reasons I love this stamp is that it reminds me of the way I liked to dress when I was younger. I also begged for pink glasses every time I went to the eye doctor. After I was old enough to dress myself and pick out my own clothes, I rarely made it out of the house wearing my outfit of choice. My Mother was quick to veto many combos. Creative would be a good word to describe them. One Sunday morning when I was ten, we were running late and I didn't have time to change clothes so Mom said "whatever, we are late and not many people are to see you since we will sit in the back". My outfit consisted of a maroon floral print skirt, cowboy boots, green and yellow tube socks (and yes you could see them above the boots) and a plaid shirt. The one thing pulling this together was the color green that appeared in everything except the boots. The reason I remember this so well is that we had a wreck on the way to church so I got to meet lots of new people at the hospital dressed in all my glory!

Here's a Hug

Ever have one of those days when you felt like this? I know I have! She is just so pitiful standing there holding her little rabbit and crying her eyes out. This is an image from Sassy Cheryl's and is called Missing You. All of her images are just so much fun to color, which lately has been my number one criteria for picking stamps or images to play with. I have bought several of them so far and every time I go and look she has added even more to the store, each one cuter than the last. I can't visit too often! Anyway, after sizing my image, I printed it out and then colored it with Copic markers. On Paper Craft Planet, there is a thread asking about our favorite color combos. This happens to be several of my favorite combos. Her shirt is R22, R24, R29 and R39, her jeans are B32, B34 and B39, my favorite yellow blonde hair is Y21, Y23 and a little E31 and my go to colors for brown shoes are E71, E74 and E79. I have had that paper forever and have been hoarding it because I just love it. Since this card was about my favorite Copic colors, I decided to cut into it. I just used some random buttons to make the border on the side. The sentiment is from a set of stamps that  got at Jo-Ann's and I can't remember if they are some old Hero Arts or another brand. I've had them a while and the original packaging is long gone. Thanks for visiting with me a little while today!

Blowing Bubbles

Hello! For this card, I used another Sassy Cheryl image. She has a ton of images that are not only cute, but they are so much fun to color and you know me, I love to color! I think she is just too sweet blowing a big bubble with her bubblegum. I think she looks a little surprised too, like maybe its the first time she has blown one so big. I colored everything with Copic markers. All PP is Making Memories and the card stock is the Paper Studio. The ribbon is once again from the bag I had left over when I was doing my wedding programs. The jeweled brad was one I just found in a drawer. The colors match a little bit better IRL, I have a new camera and it has tons of features and things my other camera didn't have and I am still learning how to use it. That was what my Valentine gave me this year. A total shock too, since we don't normally spend that kind of money on each other. But I am so glad he did, I love it!

I want to say a big THANK YOU to Jennifer. She sent me a package that arrived today and it had a crafting tool which was very sweet, but she included a thing of coffee. We both have a serious love of coffee! Gotta run, time for Lost!!

A Little Birdie Told Me

Hello! It is a snowy day here so I didn't go to work. We didn't actually get that much snow, but it rained first and that froze before we started getting snow. I was checking out the news before leaving the house and they were saying there more than 14 cars and trucks wrecked between the five mile stretch interstate where I get on and where I exit. At one point they were saying that they would close that portion since it was a sheet of ice but all the patrol cars were working accidents! I decided it would be best to stay inside to minimize my chance of injury today.

I decided to work with an image today that reminded me of warmer weather. This is a digi stamp from Sassy Cheryl's. She has some very cute images available, lots of cute and sassy kids, and some darling snowmen. After printing my image I colored with Copics. I inked around the image with a pink ink pad before mounting it onto a piece of blue card stock because I wanted that extra color there without the added thickness that another piece of paper would have added.  My fence is a border punch from Martha Stewart and the flowers on the fence are from Joilees. The papers and card stock are from DCWV and the ribbon is from my never-ending stash!
