Mother's Day Stuff

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend and if you celebrated, a happy Mother's Day. We bought my MIL a bracelet and necklace set from the craft fair that we went to last weekend. The woman that makes these makes all of the glass beads by hand and it is gorgeous. I wish I had thought to take a picture of them! I decided to make another box with a drawer as my gift holder. I used this image from Deidre Mosher. I wanted to keep it kind of simple and elegant looking so I chose to go with just a sentiment instead of an image that needed to be colored.

I do not make cards for my MIL for Mother's Day. I do for other occasions, but Kip likes to pick out her card on Mother's Day and I think he should. I usually make something, like a gift tag or the box or bag that we will put her gift in, just not the card.

I do have to say I have an awesome MIL. I know friends and have heard of so many people that do not, which makes me appreciate mine all the more. We are very different in most ways; she is very elegant and classy and put together at all time and the best two words to describe me and my style are quirky and eclectic (aren't those nice words for...kind of weird??). I have a funny story from my wedding that some of you may know, but I never mentioned her reaction. I had decided to wear hot pink, high-top, Chuck Taylor tennis shoes under my wedding dress. When she realized that, I know she was probably mortified, but the only look was a little shock and I told her that I had always said, ever since I was a young teenager that those were my plans and to her enormous credit all she said was "Well, that is great then, I am glad you are getting to do it". I know she loves me and accepts me, quirks and all. She has a great sense of humor though and she is kind of crafty so we do have things in common.

Since I am the only one in the family that isn't a mom, I usually host the entire family for a Mother's Day lunch. I do all the cooking and will only let the guys help with clean up, my MIL and SIL get to do nothing, not because they don't offer, but because I won't let them. Here is a picture of my table setting for this year:

Tooth Fairy Box

Hello! I have a box to share with you today. The challenge on the Riley and Company blog this week is to make a small gift box or treat bag. I have been wanting to make one of these boxes with the pull out drawer for a while and this was my motivation. I used Tooth Fairy Riley/Sophie and made this box to give to one of my friend's daughter. She loves to leave drawings and things for the Tooth Fairy so I thought this box would be perfect for her. After coloring everything with Copics, I added some Stickles to her wings and some gold glitter glue to her skirt. The image has a tooth drawn in, but I also had these tooth shaped brads that I used for just a little more dimension. I added some shimmery flowers and some ribbon to finish my box.

I mentioned in yesterday's post  that I am on a mission to use stamps that I haven't used in a while. I am also trying to use up some of my opened packs of embellishments and rolls of ribbon. You know what I'm talking about, the embellishments that you have bought for a specific project and then the rest of the package retires to the land of forgotten embellishments. And the rolls of pretty ribbon that are almost gone but got buried by all the other pretty rolls of ribbon that you keep buying, Yeah, those things! This project used up the last of the little jewels on the crown, the last of those blue and white flowers and the last bit of that pink and blue ribbon.

Gift Box

I had a need for some small gift boxes and started out altering a box I already had but the gift items I wanted to put in there were just a little squished. To solve that problem, I made my own box. I used this digi image from Shirley's 2 Girls don't forget they are having a DT Call, info is here)and colored it with Copic markers. The sprinkles on the cupcake are micro glass beads and the marshmallows are the punch out of the embossed snowflake around the border of the lid. I used a Martha Stewart border punch that embosses and punches out snowflakes. Here's a slightly better shot of the lid:
And what did I want to put in my little box? Some K-cups for the Keurig coffee maker, one of each of the holiday flavors. I have it on good authority that Santa may be bringing me one of these for Christmas!

Far Out...It's Your Birthday

Wow, it has been really hot here today! We took Kip's dad out for dinner tonight and made a quick run to Target, and that was it for us being out today. This set I have made here is a birthday gift for someone like me who was born in the 70s. I started the Hippy Hanna and then stamped and colored her with Copic and Prisma markers. My dad's sister is actually closer to my age than to his and she was teen-ager in the 70s and I was the pesky little kid that followed her everywhere. I remember watching her get ready to go on dates and out with her friends. She had some of these multi colored jeans! I also remember her having jacked and jeans with those fuzzy iron on patches. To create that look here, I used Liquid Applique on her jeans. That is the only tie-dyed paper I have been able to find anywhere and I love it! You can see the outside of the card says "Far Out", and the inside that you can't see says "It's Your Birthday".

I decided to make this little treasure box full of '70s memories. The box is an A2 card size box that I stamped with Versamagic inks and then added some foam stickers that I got from the girls' collage box.
Inside the box are things that I remember enjoying from my childhood in the 70s; Chicklets chewing gum, Pop-Rocks, Dr. Pepper flavored Lip Smackers, a ring pop, candy necklaces, a Mad-Libs game, some smiley face stickers, and this cool keychain that I made using the accessories from the Hippy Hanna set stamped onto Shrinky Dink film. Star Box

My Designing D.I.V.A.S blog group thought it would be a good idea to start a Secret Sister challenge and exchange as a way to get to know each other a little better. Each of us filled out a little survey with our likes and dislikes and then each week we had a challenge to do with that secret sister in mind. At the end of the period we will be mailing all of our items to the person that we were matched to and reveal our identity. Our last challenge was this week and we will mail them off next week. I haven't posted many of my projects because they have all been sitting on my desk getting continually tweaked! I am always a little more antsy when it comes to sending things to other stampers. Don't know why, just one of the crazy things about me. It has nothing to do with who I am sending them to either. One of my best friends rarely gets anything from me because she is a stamper too. Angela and everyone in the blog groups are so kind, helpful and encouraging so I have no reason to doubt my ideas, but I still do at times. This swap has been very good for me for getting me to step outside my comfort zone. Hang on Angela, you might even get something one day soon!!

Another reason I have been happy that I chose to participate has been the selection of challenges that we were given. I have tried several new things, and more importantly, found that I have enjoyed them. This challenge was to make a box or a bag that we could put in a small treat. The challenge went even further by asking us to make a box or bag that we had never made before. So I went to the main place I always go when I need a project like the, the Scor-Pal website. I swear that is one of the best craft purchases I have ever made. No way I would have gotten this right without my Scor-Pal. There are tons of idea on the site and the directions are very clear and concise and easy to follow. Every project that I have attempted has been a wow project! My star box here uses paper from one of the DCWV Luxury packs, but I am not sure which one. The tag was punched out with the Sizzix Traditional Tag Combo die. The word "inspire" was stamped with CTMH's Solo I set and the flower came from the Solo N set. Both were stamped with CTMH inks and the flower was then painted with Twinkling H20.

I have the whole day today to play around in the craft room, I am so excited. Thanks for stopping by and spending a few minutes of your Saturday with me.

Summery Notecard Box

This is the other notecard box and card set that I made. I decided to go with a bright summer theme with this set. I made eight cards in each set and this set had two different designs. The sentiments are mixed, I included some birthdays, some say thank you and some say thinking of you. The stamps are from the Everyday Blessings set from Papertrey Ink. I stamped the flower in the orange ink and then went around the edges of the stamp with a pink ink pad and then stamped it onto the paper. I forget the name of that technique, I think it is called Rock and Roll or something like that. The box is the same one that I made for yesterday's post with the scalloped lid, but the top of this one is decorated.
Papers are from DCWV, stamp set is from Papertrey Ink, inks are from CTMH and the scallops and circles are punched with Marvy punches.

Notecard boxes

I had someone ask me if I could make them some notecard sets. Just general sets that would be suitable for gift giving. Sure I can! Even better, she had no color scheme that she wanted or anything in particular, she just wanted coordinating sets. It was also my choice if I wanted to do each set exactly the same design or if I wanted to mix them up. This is one set that I made. I used Papertrey Ink's Borders and Corners Monogram Edition set. This is one set that I made all the cards the same. The cards can be used individually as wedding cards to give or the entire set can be given to the bride and groom. You can add a gift card to the decorations on top of the box or on the inside and the  newly married couple has some handmade thank you cards ready to go. If I make this and know the wedding colors, I will coordinate the cards and box to match. The cards use DCWV card stock, the  Swiss Dots Cuttlebug embossing folder, CTMH inks and American Crafts ribbon. Here is the box that was made with the same papers as the cards. I haven't decided how I want to decorate the top yet, or if I just want to add a big bow.  
I will show you another box and card set tomorrow. It's a lot different than this one! I love making boxes and things now. All thanks to my Scor-Pal! I couldn't believe what a difference having that made in my projects. Now when I make boxes and things they actually get given away instead of ending up in the trash. If you are on the fence about this one, go for it. It's one of those purchases that was worth every penny and I use it almost every single day.
